Charlotte Workers’ Compensation Attorney
Attorney Valerie Kilgore joined the firm as a workers’ compensation attorney in May of 2017.
Ms. Kilgore was acclaimed both academically and in athletics while attending undergraduate school at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. She was awarded a Presidential Scholarship each of her 4 years of undergraduate studies, was recognized as an outstanding student leader, and sat on a new professor hiring committee. Ms. Kilgore was also a member of the Indoor Track team, was an instructor and member of SLU Samurai (Karate Club), member of the SLU Samurai Doshi Kai (Honor Society), and taught self-defense classes at the request of various organizations at St. Lawrence University.
Ms. Kilgore earned her juris doctorate from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, Birmingham, Alabama, in 1999. While in law school, Ms. Kilgore was a member of the Dean’s List, Environmental Law Society, Treasurer of the Women in Law Society, and was an annual attendee of the NAPIL (National Association of Public Interest Law) Conference. Ms. Kilgore also gained invaluable experience during a judicial externship with Circuit Judge J. Michael Joiner (who now sits on the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals).
Ms. Kilgore has spent the better part of the last 20 years working behind the scenes in the legal field. Prior to moving to North Carolina in 2002, she worked at a general practice law firm in Upstate New York. Upon moving to North Carolina, Ms. Kilgore worked as a paralegal for 15 years before taking the leap to become an attorney, with over 10 of those years being in the area of workers’ compensation. Ms. Kilgore has worked on files from the ground up and has a great understanding of the frustrations associated with litigation along with the finesse necessary to make things happen. Ms. Kilgore welcomes the opportunity to meet and speak with each of her clients.
Ms. Kilgore is happily married, and enjoys hiking, traveling, and the companionship of her rescue animals. Ms. Kilgore is active in animal rescue, having volunteered with shelters and rescues across the country, including on the ground rescue in Mississippi following Hurricane Katrina.
